QOD: Is our legacy as inhabitants of this earth destined to be one of cruelty towards each other?
Saddened as I am by the news of the Virginia Tech gunman, I can't help but ponder the philosophical aspect of the news lately. What is it that drives a young man to murderous chaos? Is it sickness or just plain anger? I'm shocked at how this young man was missed, but not necessarily surprised. What was the straw that broke the camel's back on this one....one more rejection, or just not enough medication to stop the paranoid delusions that he faced each and every day?
We can speculate and investigate, and yet we'll never know for certain. What we should do is grieve; feel the sadness and help those bereft in the wake of this terrible tragedy. And finally, forgive. Forgive this tortured soul and ultimately ourselves for as I recently counseled my friend, "to err is human, to forgive, divine." Let's be divine, dahling.
