QOD: Have you read any good books lately?
Actually, I have - and I only ask this question because I've got too much buzzing in my little brain to come up with anything more substantial that ponders the universe.
Atonement - just finished the tome, after seeing the flick. I bought the book years ago, but was unable to get into it for some reason. But once I saw the film, I knew I had to dig deeper into the symbolism and the magic and manner of this story of truly unrequited love. I really believed that Cee and Robbie had come back to each other. Now I'm not gonna pimp the book or the movie - suffice it to say, it is one of the great love stories of recent times - pick up a copy and read it.
Love in the Time of Cholera - is my current book and I'm reading it before I rent the DVD because surely by now it is available. It was not long in the theatres, probably because of the subtitles, but I heard it was a glorious and funny film. The book has proven, thus far, to tickle my funny bone and also has me scouring for the hook, what the protagonist is set out to accomplish. I heard Javier Bardem was excellent in the film - and funny too. I LOVED him in No Country for Old Men - he should get the Best Supporting Actor Oscar for that turn, "Call it - friendo." Oooooh - creepy. At the very abrupt ending it dawned on me..... sequel. They have just created the 21st century Hannibal Lechter - a criminal with a drive to complete his mission.
