QOD: Is it constantly a full moon, with a bunch of crazies out wandering this world?
After last weekend's low-speed chase and capture of a drunk driver, I suppose I shouldn't be surprised by anything anymore. I just got an URGENT email from the head of my 5-year old son's school. There was an incident nearby to the school where a man in his 30's stopped his dented, late model white pickup (why do they always drive trucks?), got out and tried to abduct a young girl on her way to school. He was armed with a knife (good thing the crooks don't own guns, sheesh) but the girl was able to get free and run home.
A few months ago (has it been that long?) a man, presumably high on some sort of a controlled substance, entered my neighborhood, walked right past my house and ended up inside a neighbors house at 2am looking for stuff to steal. When confronted by the woman homeowner, he wielded his weapon of choice, a samurai sword, and tried to tell her that he had her husband tied up in the other room. The husband was actually snoring through the entire incident and the kids called 911 while the woman was able to talk this tweaker into going outside and managed to lock him out.
I happen to wander this world at all hours myself, often getting up pre-dawn to make it to the airport for a first flight out. I guess I should make it a priority to get to the local range and practice. I don't plan on being surprised by any knife or sharp-implement wielding nutjob, not me. After all, I am a card carrying member of the NRA. Hmmm, I wonder if I qualify for a CCW permit?
